A native of Beaumont and a resident of Lafayette for 66 years, Lena Decoux, in her younger years of motherhood, was devoted to raising and caring for her family. She was the helper with homework and the volunteer for countless duties, including: lunchroom helper, chaperone for dances and the driver for all of her kids and their friends back and forth for many activities. She was a proud participant and faithful watcher of all sports played by each of her children. That was the life she shared with her husband. As her children grew, married and had children of their own, Lena was still there trying to do all those things again for them. There was not a pie she could not bake or a flowerbed she could not tend. She was an avid bowler in her younger years and held many bowling trophies and awards. She was very active in the bowling leagues, tournaments and teaching children to bowl. Lena Decoux will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be Greg Fremin, Doug Decoux, Todd Hebert, Hampton Bryan, Wil Finley and Jason Fremin. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Decoux's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503 or on their website at www.HospiceAcadiana.com. Special thanks to doctors Hector Robles and Mike Mounir for years of dedicated medical attention. A very special thanks to Thelma Piper, who came into mom’s life as her caretaker but leaves us forever as a member of our family. Her love and devotion to mom was most evident in all the "extras" that she did. Her stories of her "12 children" kept mom and all of us in tears of laughter. May god bless you Thelma.
