The Life of Horace Lacour Jr.

Funeral services will be held at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Horace Lacour, Jr., 85, who after a sudden fall, passed away peacefully at Lafayette General Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Monsignor Harry Benefiel will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Gift bearers will include Velma Kallam and Mairon and George Berry with readings by Todd Gonzales and Robert Kallam. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Born in Patterson and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mr. Lacour attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Lafayette High School. He thereafter attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI) but World War II interrupted his college studies. Mr. Lacour served in the Army having received both Army and Navy aviator’s wings. He bravely served his country in the Pacific Theater. Upon his returning from serving his country, Mr. Lacour completed his studies at SLI. After graduation, he began a career with the Internal Revenue Service of the U. S. Department of Treasury serving for over 35 years as the Regional Field Superintendent. Mr. Lacour was a member of the Board of Directors and past President of the Lafayette Town House, a member of the Order of the Troubadours, a Charter Member of Les Brigands de Lafitte and an active member of Red Lerille’s Health Club for over 30 years. Mr. Lacour was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 55 years, Etta Mae McManus Lacour, and his parents, Gertie and Horace Lacour,Sr. Survivors include his sister, Lou Ann (Mrs. Aubin) Songy of Luling, Louisiana and his brother, Robert Lacour of Houma, Louisiana. Though he never had any children of his own, he was loved by his nieces and nephews, Steve Songy (Christine), Doug Songy (Julie), Claire Guidry (Bubba), Paula Gonzales (Todd), and JoAnn Stokes and the Kallam children as though they were his own. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday. Pallbearers will include Steve Songy, Doug Songy, Karl Guidry, Todd Gonzales, Robert Kallam and Carl Ditch, M.D. Donations can be made in Mr. Lacour’s honor to the Bishop’s Services Appeal, Diocese of Lafayette, 1408 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, La 70501 or the De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
