The Life of Eleanor Alice Bourgeois

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Eleanor Alice Bourgeois, 62, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at her daughters residence in Rayne, LA. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. The Very Reverend Monsignor Russell J. Harrington, VE, Pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Mire, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing for the services, “Ave Maria”, “Pie Jesu”, "Panis Angelicus" and “J''Irai La Voir Un Jour”. Survivors include one daughter, Leonor Villadiego Bercier and her husband, Edwin L. Bercier IV; two sisters, Genevieve Bourgeois of Lafayette and Catherine Bourgeois Mason of New Orleans; three brothers, Dr. Anthony E. Bourgeois, Jr. of College Station, TX., James F. Bourgeois and his wife, Christine of Lafayette and Charles O. Bourgeois of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Jori, Evelyn, Edwin V, Leo Bercier and Bennett Deshotels; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn Courquet and Anthony Emile Bourgeois, Sr. Eleanor will be dearly missed not only by family and friends, but by all of those who knew and loved her. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School of Lafayette in May of 1966 and was a graduate of University of Southwestern Louisiana with a degree in French Education. She taught English and foreign languages at Acadiana High School and Lafayette Middle School. After her retirement in 1995, she was employed by the Diocese of Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Dr. Anthony E. Bourgeois, Jr., James F. Bourgeois, Charles O. Bourgeois, Anthony E. “Tad” Bourgeois III, Clifton C. Henderson, Jr., and Richard Henderson. A Rosary will be prayed by Dr. Zebediah Stearns on Monday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette. The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of services. The family would like to thank the Heart of Hospice, especially Dr. Zebediah Stearns, Sonya Boudreaux, Leah Mergist, and Gail Zeno for their tender care.
