The Life of John Gus Guilbeau Sr.

Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 22, 2011 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for John Gus Guilbeau, Sr.,86 , who passed away on July 19, 2011 at 11:55 am at his daughter''s residence. Reverend Ed Duhon, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Guilbeau, Sr., a resident of Broussard, LA, was the son of the late Cesaire Guilbeau of Broussard, Louisiana and the former Cora Smith of Broussard, Louisiana. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church; spent 25 years as the Broussard Town Marshall; over 25 years with the Broussard volunteer Fire Department; a bus driver from 1973 until 1988; and over 50 years with Woodmen of the World serving as a past President. In the 1960''s and 1970''s he coached and umpired baseball. Mr. Guilbeau served his country in World War II in the Army. In the 1990''s he served as a crossing guard for the Broussard police department. He enjoyed working outside in the garden growing his own vegetables. He also volunteered with Sacred Heart Church in Broussard as a cook. He is survived by one son, Johnny Guilbeau, Jr. of Broussard, LA; two daughters, Darnell Guilbeau and partner Sharon Sandlin of Broussard and Amelie Singleton and husband Robert of Broussard; two grandchildren, Michelle Guilbeau Patin, and Jason Guilbeau; two great grandchildren, Phoebe Patin and Hannah Patin; three step grandchildren, Leah Sandlin, Heidi Guillory and Bobby Singleton; two step great grandchildren, Alexis Landry and Peyton Guillory; and one sister, Goldie Gondron of Breaux Bridge, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Myrl Guilbeau; brother, George Guilbeau; and his daughter-in-law, Melinda Guilbeau. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Broussard on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Thursday evening in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Friday at 8:00 AM until the time of services. Pallbearers will be Lt. Mike Gore, Cpl. Chris Babin, Cpl. Jeffery Credeur from the Broussard police department. Capt. Jordan Credeur, Capt. Zac Gerard; Fire Fighter Dennis Mouton from the Broussard Fire department. Honorary pallbearers will be Chief Brannon Decou from the Broussard police department and Chief Bryan Champagne from the Broussard Fire department. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bank of Sunset, P. O. Box 525, Broussard, LA 70518, John Gus Guilbeau, Sr. Fund to benefit the Broussard Police and Fire Departments.  Delhomme Funeral Home, 111 North Washington Street, Broussard, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
