The Life of Bessie Hitt

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 30, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Bessie ''Betty'' M. Hitt, 87, who passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007 at her residence.

Reverend Perry R. Sanders, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral service.

Interment will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hitt, a native of Nacogdoches, Texas and resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Lee Mullins of Mansfield, Louisiana and the former Lela Collum of Meridian, Mississippi. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh Hitt, Jr. and wife, Loretta Norman Hitt of Maurice and Harry Hitt and wife, Katherine Barnes Hitt of Lafayette; three grandchildren, James Hugh Hitt and wife, Carrie Clark Hitt, Thomas Hitt and wife, Joanna Mayes Hitt and Kenneth Hitt; five great grandchildren, Justin Hitt, Jonathan Hitt, Jessie Charles Hitt, John Thomas Hitt and Jennifer Leigh-Ann Hitt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh H. Hitt, Sr.; two sisters, Willie Mae Pate and Esther Holt; and one brother, Ben Mullins.

Pallbearers will be James Hugh Hitt, Thomas Hitt, Justin Hitt, Jonathan Hitt, Kenneth Hitt and Matt Pate.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Sunday from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm and continue Monday from 9:00 am until time of service.

Memorial contributions may be sent in the name of Bessie Hitt to First Baptist Church of Lafayette, Building Fund, 1100 Lee Avenue, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501.
