The Life of Daniel A. Dufrene

Funeral Services for Daniel A. “Pop” Dufrene, 87 will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, June 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Broussard with Rev. Albert Langley officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at David Funeral Home of Lafayette from 5:00PM until 9:00PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, June 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Broussard from 9:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Dufrene, a native of Des Allemands and a resident of Broussard, died at 7:45AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Camelot of Broussard. As a young man he assisted his father in building wooden fishing boats and Coast Guard crafts. He served his country in the Army during World War II with the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion and was an interpreter for the 9th Army. He survived five major battles while serving in the European Theater. Mr. Dufrene was an ordained minister with the Southern Baptist Convention and served over 38 years in South Louisiana. After his retirement he spent his time as an artist, repairing and restoring furniture, and building picture frames. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jordan Dufrene of Broussard; three daughters, Marsha and her husband F. J Armond of Ruston, Marilyn and her husband Al Brantley of Clinton, MS, and Candace and her husband Gary Friday of Katy, TX; seven grandchildren, Allison Armond, Chad Armond and his wife Stacey, Andrew Armond and his wife Patty, Will Brantley and his wife Calen, Stacey Friday, Jaclyn Friday, and Sonja Kelly and her husband Terry; five great grandchildren, Lucas Kelly, Claire Kelly, Camille Kelly, Thomas Armond, and Sadie Macon Brantley; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a host of Christian family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Augustine and Elvira Dufresne Dufrene; a brother, George Dufrene, and a sister, Lillian D. Frickey. Serving as pallbearers will be James Elliott, D.W. Tilley, Doyle Dean, Kerry Bertsch, Roger Roseman, and Galen Wilson. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Heart of Hospice of Lafayette, 101 Parkwest Dr., Scott, LA 70583 or The Freedom Fund at First Baptist Church of Broussard. They have also requested that everyone wear red, white, and blue to the services on Friday morning. David Funeral Home of Lafayette at 316 Youngsville Hwy (337)837-9887 will be handling the arrangements.
