The Life of Oran Francois Leger

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Mr. Oran Francois Leger, age 74, who passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, December 9, 2006 in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Giftbearers are Mary Helen Thibodeaux and Arlene Ballenger. Lectors will be Celia Thibodeaux and Ashley Larive.Survivors include his wife of thirty six years, Judy Larive Leger of Lafayette; two sons, Heath Leger of Lafayette and Andre'' Leger and his wife, Shelly of Carencro; eight grandchildren, Lacie, Chasity, Forest, Mia, Justin, Jordan, Adam and Britton; one great grandchild, Britten Dupuis; six sisters, Louella Lagneaux of Sunset, Arine Prejean and her husband, Bill of Carencro, Wannida Richard of St. Rose, LA, Bell Varain and her husband, Barney of Modesto, California, LouAnna Leger and her companion Lauralee Reugger of Covington and Audrey Leger of Missouri City, Texas and one brother, Sherwood Leger and his wife, Eunice of Carencro.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Armany and Nida Broussard Leger; one brother, Chester Leger and three sisters, Shirley Leger, Lillian Leger and Lilia Leger.A native of Duson and a resident of Lafayette since 1958, Mr. Leger was a veteran of military service, having served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. During High School, Mr. Leger began boxing, which he did throughout his school years, during his military duty, and continued when he returned home.  He was awarded the 1959 Golden Glove State Championship title. Mr. Leger was a graduate of SLI, now UL of L with a degree in accounting. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Leger was the owner and operator of  Chez Francois Seafood in Lafayette since 1975 and was also a Notary Public. He had a strong work ethic all of his life which attributed him as a successful business man. He loved caring for animals, especially his dogs and horses and also had a green thumb when it came to caring for plants. Mr. Leger was a people person and was very generous, especially with his customers over the years. He was known as the Lagniappe man because he always gave a little extra in their orders. Mr. Leger was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, devoted father and a caring grandfather. A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 6:00 PM by Reverend Keith J. DeRouen in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.The family requests that visiting hours be observed Monday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of the Funeral Mass. Pallbearers will be Kim Thibodeaux, Blake Thibodeaux, Raywood Lagneaux, Ryan Lagneaux, Larry Lagneaux and Kory J.
