The Life of Sadie Mildred White

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lafayette for Sadie Mildred Mixon White, 97, who died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Regency House Nursing Home in Alexandria, LA
Rev. Dr. Thomas Cole will officiate the services, assisted by Rev. Joel Hilbun. Music will be provided by Reverend Zachary Young.
Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mildred was born in Saline, Louisiana on March 24, 1909 to Edwin Alonzo Mixon and Daisy Allen Mixon. Mildred attended Normal College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and began teaching fourth grade at Shongaloo School in 1927. She married Richard Douglas White in 1934 and raised their 2 sons in Gueydan, Louisiana. The family eventually moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where Mildred remained for 40 years. While in Lafayette, she and her husband helped establish East Bayou Baptist Church. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lafayette where she and her husband led the youth group for 25 years. Mildred taught Vacation Bible School for 49 years as well as Sunday school all of her adult life. While her life revolved around her Christian beliefs and service to her church. Mildred also taught English as a second language to International women at her home in Lafayette. ''Nanny," as Mildred was affectionately known, was a loving caregiver for many people. She cared for her mother and mother-in-law in her home until their deaths. She also cared for her three granddaughters for several years during their mother''s illness and untimely death. Nanny''s declining health brought her to Alexandria in 1998, where she lived until her death. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the nursing staff and aides at the Regency House Nursing Home in Alexandria for their four years of loving care.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in law, Richard William White and Durene of Denton, TX and Edwin Mixon ''Mickey'' White and Lynn of Pineville, LA; grandchildren, Stephen White, Bill White, Michelle White Griffin, Karen White Pearl, Stephanie White Neal, Pamela White Risher; step grandsons, Benjamin & Adam Salley; and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Richard Douglas White; daughter, Phyllis Ann White; sisters, Nellie Endora Walker and Gladys Milner Hall and her daughter-in-law, Trudie Lindsey White.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Monday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Visiting hours will be observed at the church Tuesday for one hour prior to the services at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers will include Gene LeJeune, Adam Salley, Bill White, Hershel Truelove, R.B. Trahan and Graydon Walker.
