The Life of Florence Thibeaux

Lafayette - A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 at St. Pius X Catholic Church for Florence B. Thibeaux, 94, who passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center. The Rev. Pastor S. LeBlanc will be the celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in the Holy Mother of God Mausoleum.

Mrs. Florence Thibeaux was a native of Lafayette, LA, born June 30, 1913. She moved to Port Arthur, TX in the early 1950’s where she resided approximately 40+ years. She was happily married 48 ½ years to the late Ulyless Thibeaux of Youngsville, LA. Employed and later retired from Texaco in Port Arthur, TX, Mrs. Thibeaux and her husband were both active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church as skilled and talented fundraisers for Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Port Arthur, many local civic clubs and organizations. It was there that she was responsible for organizing the first Altar Society. Both belonged to the Royal Social Club and Mr.& Mrs. Social Club where she stood out as a dedicated, vibrant and enthusiastic member. She was also a member of Ladies Auxiliary Court 76 of Lafayette, LA as well as in Oakland, CA Court where she eventually served as Vice-Grand Lady. Upon retirement, she and her husband relocated to Oakland, CA in 1976 where they both became members of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church serving as trustees for the Vicar General Fr. Paul Vasar, Pastor.

A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Thibeaux is survived by her son, Wildon (Carolyn) Thibeaux of Houston, TX; one daughter, Quintella (Bernard) Baskerville of Lafayette, LA; sister, Inez Broussard Prejean of Lafayette, LA; a brother, Elmo Broussard of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Michele Lyons of Houston, TX, Peter Thibeaux of Tiberon, CA, Brent Thibeaux , Donna Thibeaux, and Anthony Thibeaux, all of Oakland, CA; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins also dear to her heart. She is also acknowledged by her special adopted family, Mrs. Betty Z. McGhee, Venus D. Johnson, Esq., Lauren R. McGhee and Creo Abraham, all of Oakland, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claymar Broussard and Ida Scranton; brothers, Clarence Broussard, Carlton Broussard, Shefton Broussard; sisters, Ethel Broussard Malveaux, Jeanne Broussard Green, Agnes Broussard Lewis; her first born son, Eldridge Anthony Thibeaux and son Larry Thibeaux.

Special thanks to Dr. Brian Lebean, physicians and caring staff of Lafayette General Medical Center and Maison de Lafayette Nursing Home. Special thanks also must be deeply extended to her nephew, Dr. Joseph Prejean for his loving attention and professional consultation during her time of illness.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2007 at Syrie Funeral Home beginning at 7 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m.

Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.
