The Life of Walton Lee Girouard

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at a 12:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for  Walton Lee Girouard, age 81, who passed away at his residence in Lafayette on Thursday, February 1, 2007.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Louis J. Richard, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Giftbearers will be Dana Girouard & Kyla LeDuc.  Lectors are Brandi Simon and Kaisha Menard.  Sharee Hunter, organist, will sing for the Funeral Services, "On Eagles'' Wings", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "Be Not Afraid" and "Here I Am, Lord".Survivors include his children, Cindy Reaux and her husband, Mackie Reaux of Youngsville, Hershel Girouard and his wife, Linda of Youngsville, Catherine Girouard of Lafayette and Charlene Mouton and her husband, Robbie of Youngsville; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his brothers, Ray Girouard, Louis Girouard and Harold Girouard, all of Lafayette; his sisters, Irene Landry and Neda Judice, both of Lafayette.He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie D. Girouard; one daughter, Christine Girouard Simon; his parents, Sidney and Alma Guilbeau Girouard; twin grandsons, Christopher and James Girouard and two brothers, Ernest Girouard and Sidney Patrick Girouard.A native of Scott and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mr. Girouard enlisted in 1943 and was a veteran of military service, having served in the United States Navy during World War II, where he earned the American Area Campaign Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon. He spent time aboard the USS Mt. Vernon AP22 Troop Transport Ship. In 1946, he enlisted in the National Guard Reserves in the 156th infantry as a Sergeant First Class. On October 15,1961 he was activated to Fort Sill, Oklahoma in the 3628th Ordinance Company during the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Girouard was a member of the American Legion Post #9822 in Judice.   Prior to his retirement on May 31, 1980, he worked as a mechanic and shop foreman with the Louisiana National Guard.A Rosary will be prayed Friday at 6:30 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of services.Pallbearers will be Mackie Reaux, Ryan Reaux, Hershel Girouard, Hershel Girouard II, Robbie Mouton and Derek Mouton.  Honorary pallbearers are Kurt Reaux, James Simon, John Bonin, Ray Girouard, Louis Girouard and Harold Girouard.  Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette 337-234-23311 has been chosen to help with the arrangements.
