The Life of Alcee Joseph Dugas

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Alcee Joseph Dugas, 88, who passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.The Very Reverend Monsignor J. Douglas Courville, JCL, Pastor of St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Musical selections will be "Battle Hymn of the Republic", "J''irai la voir un jour", "Prayer of St. Francis" and "Amazing Grace".Survivors include one daughter, Patricia D. Friedman of Breaux Bridge, LA.; two sons, Clifford Myers and his wife, Barbara and Dean Dugas and his wife, Jackie all of Youngsville, LA.; six grandchildren, Christine Friedman, Lydia Friedman, Nicholas Friedman, Trey Myers, Ashley Broussard and Jeremy Miers; two great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Lee Dejean of Lafayette; and one brother Sidney Dugas and his wife, Joyce of Carencro.He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys Girouard Dugas; his parents Joseph Alcee Dugas and Micael Prejean Dugas; one brother Paul Dugas; and one sister Lois Mizzi.A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mr. Dugas was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was a member member of the United States Army Air Corps where he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a dedicated employee of the Louisiana Department of Labor where he worked for 28 years until his retirement. In his earlier years Mr. Dugas was a talented musician, who enjoyed singing for weddings and funerals. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus # 4683, as well as a member of the St. Jules Catholic Church Community. Mr. Dugas enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.Pallbearers will be Dean Dugas, Clifford Myers, Jr., Trey Myers, Nicholas Friedman, Grant Menard and Kenneth Dejean.A Rosary will be prayed by the K of C # 4683 on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette.The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
