The Life of Margaret Olsen Zepernick

Jesus called home a faithful, humble servant of His; Maggie Zepernick. In her memory a Catholic Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. Maggie who was 80, was a resident of Garden View Assisted Living Retirement Center for three short years. Prior to that time, she was a resident of New Orleans where she resided in Algiers. Mrs. Zepernick was a native of Pensacola, Florida and the daughter of Julian Ole Olsen and Nell Cooper Yates. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Ruth Ellen Ferry of Marietta, Georgia; a brother, Dr. Julian Olsen of Pensacola, Florida and two granddaughters, Margaret Elinor and Mary Katherine Zepernick. Reverend Robie Robicheaux will be celebrating the Mass and conducting the funeral services. Maggie was a graduate of Florida State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was employed as the regional director of the National Institute for Infant Paralysis in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was married to Dr. Richard Zepernick for twenty years and was a teacher for ten years. In New Orleans, she was active in the Fleur de Lis Garden club, president of PEO and volunteered for the City Park of New Orleans. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout leader and a member of the Aurora Gardens Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Gus Zepernick and wife Sheila of Lafayette, Paul Zepernick and wife Debbie of Sydney, Australia, daughter, Emilie Zepernick of Boulder, CO; sister, Sybil Cole of Temple, TX; brother, Terry Olsen of Venice, FL, and eight grandchildren, Trey, Robert, Amelia, Mattie, Daniel, Nicholas, Kelsey and Marissa Zepernick. Maggie was the beloved aunt of a host of nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be observed Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue Wednesday from 8:00 am to time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.
