The Life of Irene Carter

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Irene Webb Carter, 89, who passed away January 9, 2008 at her residence. Reverend Michael Russo, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Carter was a lifetime resident of Lafayette. She was much loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Irene traveled with her husband in the military before he left for England during WWII. After a career as a secretary, she spent retirement traveling with Herbert in their Airstream trailer, enjoying her children and grandchildren and cheering for the Atlanta Braves. She was a member of the D.A.R. and C.D.A. She is survived by her husband, Herbert B. Carter; her daughters, Peggy Carter and Jo Alice Cronan and her husband, Dr. Brooks Cronan of Sunshine, LA; granddaughter, Tracy Dunham Broussard and her husband, Bart; and great grandchildren, Carter, Webb, and John Cole Broussard of New Iberia, LA. The family would like to express the deepest gratitude to her caregivers and Hospice of Acadiana. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 am until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Friday in the Delhomme Bertrand Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Rock H. Lasserre, Jr., William J. “Bill” Bacque, Henry J. Bacque, Dr. Frank R. Bacque, J. Barton Broussard, and Dr. Brooks Cronan.
