The Life of Glen McCasland

Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at a 10:00 AM Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Mr. Glen E. McCasland, age 73, who passed away at 3:40 PM Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Glen McCasland was a native of Oak Grove, Louisiana and a resident of Broussard since 1958.  He graciously donated his body to the LSU School of Medicine in the hope of aiding the fight of cardiac disease and diabetes.     Glen was honored to serve his country in the Korean Conflict as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 thru 1954.  Glen continued to be active with the military as an Army MARS net controller who helped with communications of army bases thoughout the world.  Through Army Mars, he tediously assisted with communications during natural disasters.  Glen was a licensed ham-radio operator whose call sign was K5DSD.  Glen, a member of AOPA, was a licensed pilot and flew airplanes as a hobby for 35 years.  Glen was a self taught gyro engineer.  He retired from the Bob Fournet Co. 5 years ago after 27 years of service.  He was president of Micro-Sat, a company he started 15 years ago and continued to work until the time of his passing.       Reverend Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services.  Con-Celebrants will be Reverend Thomas P. Voorhies, Pastor of St. Anthony of  Padua Catholic Church in Eunice and Reverend Herb Bennerfield, Pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre, assisted by Reverend Ira Robinson, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church of Lafayette.  Giftbearers will be Mr. McCaslands grandchildren. Readers are Paul McCasland and Ronnie Gilbert.  Eulogist will be Kevin Morvant. His grandson, Luke Bollich will perform on his violin, Minuet III by Bach. Vocal Selections will be rendered by his daughter, Jodi M. Bollich accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel.      Violinist will be Tommy Benoit and Trumpeters, Will Green and Scotty Walker. Karen Guidry, vocalist, will perform with Jodi, Pie Jesu-Webber.     Glen was a devoted husband and loving father and is survived by his wife of forty six years, Anna Morvant McCasland of Broussard, which he met on a blind date; two daughters, Laura Gilbert and her husband, Ronnie and Jodi M. Bollich and her husband, Troy; one son, Paul McCasland and his wife, Catharine; eight grandchildren, Luke, Ellie and Edie Bollich; Nate and Trace Gilbert;  Mary Catherine, Claire and Benjamin McCasland; two sisters, Clotilde Bains and her husband, Robert W. of Austin, Texas and Middie Cooper and her husband, Bobby of Oak Grove, Louisiana and one brother, Ben McCasland and his wife, Mary of Haughton, Louisiana.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Elon Castleman McCasland.             The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 9:30 AM until time of service at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.       In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Glen McCasland Memorial Fund, 505 S. Bernard Road, Broussard, LA 70518.  Monies will be used to combat Rubinstein disease in which his grandson, Ben McCasland is afflicted.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette. 337-234-2311337-234-2311.
