The Life of Thomas Lee McBennett

Thomas Lee ''Mac'' McBennett passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, Monday, July 16, 2007 at the age of 68 after a full life and a lengthy illness. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him for his quick wit, humor and patience in all situations.

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Barbara Boucher McBennett; daughter, LeAnne McBennett; and son Thomas Lee McBennett, Jr.

Mac was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina and spent his summers soaking up the sun on Myrtle Beach. After graduating from high school in Wilmington, North Carolina, he entered the United States Air Force, spending five years active duty and six years reserve.

Mac''s passion in life, aside from his family, was the insurance industry. He began his career in 1964 with Woodman of the World Insurance Company, working there for five years before beginning his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana. He worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana until he retired from his position as Regional Director in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Patrick McBennett and Sarah Inez Hair McBennett; brother, Patrick McBennett; and sister, Cindy McBennett.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and friends, Michael Minnis, Brian Magee, Mark Mathews, Paul Dupuy, Ryan Marine, Bryce Brodhead, Jared Sere and Drew Landry. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Magee and Ken Guidry.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2007 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 19, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers with visitation from 12:00 pm until service time. Interment will follow immediately at Lafayette Memorial Park.

His family was blessed to have had Melanie Lemoine with Journey Hospice caring for him.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
