The Life of Claby Duhon

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011, at 10:00 AM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Claby "Lefty" Duhon, 88, who passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonse Catholic Church in Maurice, will conduct the funeral services. Valerie Andrus, organist and soloist, will sing "Here I Am Lord", "Amazing Grace", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "Battle Hymn of The Republic", "J''irai La Voir Un Jour" for the services. Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Beatrice Ducharme Duhon; two daughters, Patricia Ann Huval and her husband Malcolm and Deborah Scholenze; one son, Robert Lewis Duhon and his wife Kathryn; nine grandchildren, Kelli Duhon, Michael Duhon, Lindsey Duhon, Daidra Boulet, Sean Lynch, Joey Lynch, Rene Lynch, Rebecca Meaux and Malcolm Huval, II; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rene and Nidia Broussard Duhon; seven sisters, Marjorie, Vera, Leta, Esther, Anna Mae, Julia and Ida; and two brothers, Elge and Dallas. Lefty, as he was more affectionately known, was born and lived his early years in Maurice, but was a resident of Lafayette for most of his life. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy on the USS Plymouth, the USS WASP and the USS Midway during World War II. He worked for and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad as an office clerk and communication technician. Lefty loved vegetable and flower gardening and was a terrific cook. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Mike Duhon, Malcolm Huval, Malcolm Huval II, Joey Lynch, Kevin Craig and Randal Meaux. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
