The Life of Dorothy Etier

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Dorothy Etier, 81, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her beloved husband for over 60 years, Frank P. Etier; one son, Brian E. Etier, Sr. and his wife Connie and ; three grandchildren, Kendall Etier, Brian Etier Jr. and his wife Lauren and Brandt Etier; one great grandchild, Ainsley Grace Etier; one sister, Pat Fournet; and two brothers, Larry Soileau and David Soileau.She was preceded in death by one daughter, Leslie Ann Etier; and her parents, Maurice Soileau and Mae Potier Soileau. A native of Parks and a longtime resident of Lafayette, Dorothy Etier was a school teacher at Fatima for many years. After the death of her daughter in 1971, she had many struggles, but overcame them. She was a recovering alcoholic and had been sober since 1975 and went on to be a mentor within the program. She was a great mother and was lovingly known to her family as "Maw Maw", and there was truly only one "Maw Maw". Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Brandt Etier, Drue Fournet, Connor Fournet, Adam Angers, Thomas Talbot and David Van Geffen.Honorary Pallbearer will be Brian Etier, Jr. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s Downtown Lafayette location on Monday, May 17, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and on Tuesday from 7:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Etier''s name to Alcoholics Anonymous, 115 Leonie St., Lafayette, LA 70506.
