The Life of Curtis Joseph Chastant Sr.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 16, 2007 at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Curtis Joseph Chastant, age 80, who died Wednesday, February 14, 2007, on Valentine''s Day to join his wife Margaret whom he affectionately called his"Mineau".Interment will be in  Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Monsignor Harry Benefiel will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Giftbearers will be Lauren Richard, Jennifer Hall, Jeanne Marie Chastant, Curtis Chastant III and Katie Bordelon.  Readers are Patrick and Maggie Placer. Musical Selections will be"On Eagles'' Wings", "Be Not Afraid", "Our Father", "Ave Maria" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic".Survivors include five daughters, Marlaine LaFleur and her husband, Therian, Judy Placer and her husband, Eloy, Catherine Bordelon and her husband, John,  Carol Magnon and her husband, Jason and Jeanie Chastant; two sons, John Haggerty Chastant and his wife, Jody and Chris Chastant and his partner, Gabriel Rodriguez; his dearest friend and companion, Lucille Sellers; eight grandchildren, Lauren Richard, Jennifer Hall, Patrick and Maggie Placer, Jeanne Marie and Curtis Chastant III, Katie Bordelon and Matthew Magnon; two great grandchildren, John Wesley Hall V and Ella Grace Hall; two brothers, Dr. Harold Paul Chastant and Elmo Chastant.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Haggerty Chastant; his parents, Paul Thomas Chastant and the former Fabiola Bourque; one son, Curtis Joseph Chastant, Jr.; one sister, Grace Chastant and one brother, Leon Chastant.A native and resident of Lafayette for eighty years, Mr. Chastant was a veteran of military service, having served in the United States Navy during World War II and also was a member of the Merchant Marines.  He was a faithful member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community. Mr. Chastant was also a member of the Petroleum Club, IGNC and Knights of Columbus of Fatima Council. He was the owner and President of Chastant Brothers, Purina Dealer since 1933 and a member of the Louisiana Ag Industries Assoc. He loved boating, camping, card games, suppers, dancing and planning parties with his friends.Pallbearers are John Chastant, Chris Chastant, Therian LaFleur, Eloy Placer, John Bordelon and Jason Magnon.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Harold Chastant, Elmo Chastant, Gabriel Rodriguez, Dale Leblanc, Ray Manuel, Dr. Bradley Chastant, Patrick Placer, Curtis Chastant III, Matthew Magnon, John Hall IV,  Ra'' Richard and Candy Thompson.The family request that visiting hours be observed Friday from 11:00 AM until time of services.Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Chastant''s name to the Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, La 70501 or De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501.The Chastant family extend their heartfelt appreciation  to Gertrude Chevalier, Jean Chaisson, Rachel Foreman, staff of Concepts of Care, Dr. Gene Brierre and staff, Dr. Perri Prellop and staff at Oncologics, Inc. for the kindness and care offered to Curtis during his time of need.Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette has been chosen to help with the arrangements.  337-234-2311
