The Life of Henry Reid Perry

Funeral services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Henry Reid Perry, 88, who passed away Saturday, September 15, 2007 at The Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings.

Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Perry, a native of Lake Arthur and a former resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late, Wilbert Perry of Perry, Louisiana and the former Eugenia Broussard of Lake Arthur. He was a Veteran in the United State Marine Corps having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and served on the USS Enterprise in the Pacific until he was wounded at Iwo Jima. He remained in the Reserves until recalled by his country to serve in Korea. After the Korean War, he retired from military service with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.

As an original oil pioneer, he began working with the Superior Oil Company until retiring after 35 years of service.

Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Perry of Montgomery Village, Maryland; two sons, Randall Perry of Baton Rouge, and Steven Perry and his wife, Susan of Daytona Beach, Florida; two sisters, Joyce Gay of Jennings, and Betty Gauthier of Hammond; and one brother, Harold ''Tommy'' Perry of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Marian Gaithe Perry; one brother, Douglas Perry; and two sisters, Barbara Ann Spaetgens, and Marie Bridy.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Thursday from 8:00 am until time of service.

A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of funeral arrangements.
