The Life of Nolan Cormier

Funeral Services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Nolan Cormier, 92, who passed away on July 5, 2011 at 5:15 am at his residence. Reverend Marty Borcherding, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Cormier, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Desiree and Adelice Meaux Cormier. Nolan was the owner of the Sportsman Barbershop in East Longmeadow, MA and worked at Pete's Barbershop and retired from City Barbershop in Lafayette. He had gardens in Massachusetts as well as Lafayette which including fruit trees, berry bushes and he loved sharing all he grew. He also loved his dogs and all animals especially his loving dog Pepper. He returned home after many years of being gone from Louisiana to be with his family and friends. He loved his walks in the early morning and was an avid card player with friends. He is survived by loving wife of 65 years, Marie Marino Cormier; his daughter, Leonie Cormier Meaux of Atlanta, GA; one son, Michael Paul Cormier and wife Janis of East Longmeadow, MA; two brothers, Huey P. Cormier and wife Dorothy of Indian Bayou, LA, and Joseph Floyd Cormier and wife Thelma of Hampton, VA; three grandchildren, Dr. Justine Foo and husband Dr. Patrick Foo of Asheville, NC, Danielle Cormier of East Longmeadow, MA and James Cormier and wife Tara of Springfield, MA; four great grandchildren, Lily and Everett Foo of Ashville, NC and Jack and Tom Cormier of Springfield, MA as well as his loving companion, his dog Pepper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Desiree and Adelice Meaux Corimer; one sister, Leonie Cormier Belaire; two brothers, John Wilbur Cormier and Daniel Cormier and one infant brother, Gustave Cormier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 am until time of services. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:30 pm by Deacon Schexnayder. Pallbearers will be F.E. Gene Cormier, Kenneth Credeur, Danny Fontenot, Larry Cormier, Ryan Fontenot and Jason Boulet. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his nurse Leslie and his caretakers, Clara and Tori and also to Sabrina who cared for him for eight years, for their kind and loving care given to Mr. Cormier. Memorial contributions be made in the name of Mr. Cormier to Journey Hospice at 101 La Rue France, Suite 406, Lafayette, LA, 70508. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
