The Life of William Martin Hudson III

My father, William Martin "Mart" Hudson, III, was taken from the world on Friday, June 4, 2010. He was born on December 10, 1953 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was foremost a father, a husband, a son, a brother and a friend. My father had an innate sense of justice. He was a man who truly embraced life through his culture. He loved to watch the sun rise in the marsh. He loved music so much that he had to share it with all of his friends and family through his infamous "holiday samplers." He loved his girls. He loved watching baseball with his father. My father believed that we are living in stolen moments, and if you could steal enough, we could stop time. He brought a richness to every occasion, knowing how to make a memory perfect. Always the photographer, he knew how to capture and surround himself with beauty. My father graduated from University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1980 and from Tulane University School of Law in 1983. He co-founded the Lafayette, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge law firm of Oats & Hudson with Stephen Oats. He also co-founded the Mystic Krewe of Saints & Sinners, and served on the Children's Museum of Acadiana Board of Directors from its inception. My father was extremely proud of his Native American heritage. He loved baseball, and in particular the New York Yankees and the University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. He was an avid sportsman, but most enjoyed simply spending time in the Louisiana marshes and on the Florida beaches.Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Marvita Needham Hudson; his daughter, Megan Hudson; his father, William M. "Dub" Hudson, Jr.; one sister, Tamara Meador and her husband Gerald; one niece, Brandi Segura; and one nephew, Patrick Meador and his wife Kirsi and their daughter, Saige. He was preceded in death by his mother, Coydean Posey Hudson. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's Downtown Lafayette location on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
