The Life of Nicholas James Clayton

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. in First Baptist Church for Nicholas James Clayton, 25, who died October 1, 2009 in California. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 9 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home and again Saturday at First Baptist Church from 8 a.m. until time of services. Reverend Roger Tarver will officiate and burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Nicholas was born in Crowley, La. to Kelly John Clayton and Susan Suire Touchet. During his childhood, Nicholas lived in Crowley and Youngsville. After doing construction and roofing work in Florida and Georgia for a few years, Nicholas moved back to Louisiana. Still unsure of what path to take in his life, Nicholas worked in the oil field for a short period of time and for Blockbuster Video Rental Stores. At the end of 2007, Nicholas decided to join the United States Army. On April 28, 2008 Nicholas left for basic training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. From there, Nicholas went to AIT at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Upon successful completion of the EMT licensure exam Nicholas because an Army Medic. At this point in his military career, Nicholas was approved for home recruiting. This meant he was able to come home to Louisiana for a month before reporting to his next duty station, Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington.The week of Thanksgiving 2008, Nicholas reported to Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington to begin his new career as a US Army Medic. He was very proud of (as was his family and friends) and enjoyed being a U.S. Army Medic. Not long after Nicholas' arrival at Fort Lewis his unit was given orders to do a tour in Iraq. Nicholas was about 6 months into his tour when he decided to take leave for his birthday. After much deliberation, Nicholas decided to go visit a long time friend in California. During Nicholas' time off in California he was killed in a car accident on October 1, 2009. Nicholas is survived by his father, Kelly John Clayton and wife Michelle of Crowley; his mother, Susan Suire Touchet and husband Douglas of Erath; three sisters, Leigha Michelle Clayton, Mackenzie Leigh Clayton and Francesca Nichol Touchet; one brother, Kole Joshua Clayton; and grandparents, Billie Clayton, Verna Taylor, Judy Richard, Roderick Richard, Etta Touchet and Marilyn Suire; and one great-grandmother, Ora Richard.Nicholas was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Roland M. Clayton, maternal grandfather Eugene Suire, and grandfather Frank Touchet.It was a great comfort to his family and friends to know that Nicholas James Clayton made a profession of faith on January 12, 2008. Nicholas James Clayton also served as an altar boy at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Youngsville, La. for several years. We know that Nicholas is with the Lord. We thank the Lord our God for the precious gift Nicholas was to all of us. Nicholas James Clayton will be remembered, loved, and greatly missed by many, many people.Thank you to all the people who have been praying for us. The prayers of many and the grace of God is what carried us through this time of grief.
