The Life of Ruth Bienvenu

Funeral Services will be held at a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel, 600 E. Farrel Road, Southside Lafayette, for Mrs. Ruth Bienvenu, the former Ruth Suarez, on Friday, October 8, 2010. Interment will be in the Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Her five grandchildren will bring up the Gifts at Offertory. Musical selections will be "23 Psalm", "The Lord's Prayer", "Be Not Afraid" and "On Eagles' Wings". Survivors include one son, Ronnie Arceneaux and his wife, Bootsie Arceneaux, of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Joan Arceneaux Fatheree, Judith Arceneaux Boudreaux and husband, Kevin, Ronald R. Arceneaux, II and wife, the former, Dawn Leblanc, Jodi Truesdell Venable and husband, John, and Kerri Truesdell Cook and husband, Fred; eleven great grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Suarez Arcemont of Morgan City. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Bienvenu, Jr.; one daughter, Judy Trusdell; one sister, Mae Lynn Shannon; and one brother, Aubrey Suarez. A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Mrs. Bienvenu was a 1951 graduate of Charity Hospital in New Orleans School of Practical Nursing. She began her nursing career at Lafayette Sanitarium. Ruth was one the first surgical nurses at Lafayette General Hospital. She was an avid lover of life, laughter, music and dancing and was devoted to her children and all members of her family. Pallbearers will be Ronald R. Arceneaux II, Murphy Arcemont, Mike Arcemont, Jason Fatheree, Kevin Boudreaux and Judge Kim Stansbury. Visiting hours will be observed at Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 7, 2010, a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM and visitation will continue on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 9:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to Heart of Hospice, 201 West Vermilion Street, Lafayette, Louisiana 70501. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Dr. Michael Alexander for his many years of care. Also to Louisiana Extended Care of Acadiana and their staff for all of their help and support during her stay.
