The Life of Pauline Anna Chighizola

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at a 12:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 419 Doucet Road in Lafayette, for Pauline "Gram" Chighizola, age 100, who passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at her daughter's residence in Lafayette, surrounded by her loving family. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery, 2111 W. Pinhook Rd, Lafayette, LA. Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the graveside services. Giftbearers will be Mariah and Justin Marceaux, grandchildren. Deborah Duhon, organist and Andrea Mouton, soloist, will sing for the services, "On Eagles' Wings", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Ave Maria", and "Amazing Grace". Survivors include two daughters, Jane Naomi of Lafayette and Tina Marceaux and her fiance', Brad Menard of Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Alva Chighizola of Grand Isle; her grandchildren, Penny Besson and husband, Frank Besson Sr.; Peggy Chance and husband, Glenn Chance, Sr., Kelly Jacob Chighizola, Jr. and wife, Angie, Johnnie Stinson and wife, Pam, David Stinson and wife, Veronica, Dean Stinson and wife, Paula, Jody Stinson and wife, Liz, Jaimie Stinson and wife, Khelia, Shawn Naomi and wife, Robin, Justin Marceaux and Mariah Marceaux; 23 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and two nieces, Ruby Mitchell of Grand Isle and Doralee Barrow of LaPlace. "Gram" was preceded in death by her husband, Watson Chighizola; her parents, Ernest Santiny and Estella Verdon Santiny; a son, Kelly Jacob Chighizola, Sr.; three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Chighizola, affectionately known as "Gram" recently celebrated her 100th Birthday at a party, which was attended by over one hundred. She was also thrilled to receive a greeting from President and Mrs. Obama. She was born in Grand Isle, Louisiana on March 14, 1911, where she lived for most of her life. In her later years, she moved to Lafayette, where she lived with her daughter, Jane Naomi. During her life in Grand Isle, prior to her retirement, "Gram" was a Cafeteria Manager for 27 years at Grand Isle High School. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary for 62 years and also a member of various civic organizations. Daughters, Jane Naomi and Tina Marceaux, express their heartfelt thanks to caregiver of over seventeen years, Margie Broussard and also to Phyliss Barthelemy, Vicki Kiraly, and Hospice Staff, Lacey Washington and Nurse Janet Lewis. Particularly, the family also most gratefully thanks to Reverend Father Harold Trahan, who brought blessings and a smile to "Gram's" face during each of his visits; and to Doctor Ghyass Rick, who, as a close friend of the family made personal visits to "Gram" and sustained her with great skill and consolation. "Gram" was a devout member of the Saint Mary Mother of the Church Parish Community in Lafayette. As a wonderful loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, awesome cook and friend, "Grams" will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Also, in appreciation to Marie Garrett, Margot Millett and Lenore Markham, who were always there for "Grams". Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnnie Stinson, David Stinson, Dean Stinson, Jody Stinson, Jaimie Stinson, and Shawn Naomi. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and Friday, April 29, 2011 from 8:00 AM until time of service.
