The Life of Ernestine Moss

Ernestine ''Tina'' Dudley Moss was born on June 24, 1922 in Spearsville, LA to William Seabourn Dudley and Kathryn Allabam Futch, both of Union Parish. She was the youngest of seven children.
Tina was highly intelligent, graduating from LA Tech with a degree in education at the early age of 18. She was also a gifted athlete, having played on the LA Techters basketball team.
She began her illustrious 57 year career as an English educator in 1941 at Centerville High School in Franklin, Louisiana. In 1943, she transferred to Morgan City High School for a year, and on to Lafayette High School the next year.
She then began working at Breaux Bridge High School in 1947, where she taught multiple generations of students for 30 years. In 1977, she began teaching at Our Lady of Fatima in Lafayette. In 1982, Tina became one of the first instructors at St. Thomas More, where she also served as the Chairman of the English Department. Tina retired from teaching in 1998.
Throughout her career, Tina never felt like she was going to work because she loved teaching so much. She attended numerous class reunions and was visited frequently at home by her beloved students.
Outside of teaching, Tina was an excellent bridge player, garnering the level of Life Master. One of her most colorful stories was that she played bridge against Omar Sharif. She also enjoyed needlepoint, and was a self-taught pianist. She was excellent at crossword puzzles, and enjoyed reading suspense novels. Tina was also involved in the community through many years of volunteerism with Hospice of Acadiana. She was a devout Christian, and always took time to help others.
Tina was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, William ''Tiger'' Moss; her beloved only son, William ''Billy Jack'' Moss; her parents and siblings; and family members and friends.
Tina is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sharon Moss and Dr. Curtis H. Roy; her grandson, Coury Moss and his wife, Sarah; her niece, Melba Voda and her husband, Carl; her great nephew, David Voda; her nephew, Dudley Waller; and numerous friends and students.
