The Life of Joseph Duncan Terrell

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette for Joseph "Joe" Duncan Terrell, 63, who died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 23, 2010, after a long illness. Reverend Dick Humphries, Senior Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will conduct the Memorial Service and interment will be prior to the service at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette at 10:00 AM. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Norman Terrell and Jessie Bowen Terrell. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Sloan Terrell of Lafayette; one daughter, Ashley Terrell and Bruce Saintsing of Lafayette; one son, Ben Terrell and Wendy of Columbia, Missouri; one sister, Kathleen "Beanie" Dew of West Monroe; three sisters-in-law, Jane Sloan, Nancy Sloan and Jeanne Seidenspinner, all of Monroe; three grandchildren, Oliver Bowen Saintsing, Katherine Ruth Terrell and Margaret Mae Terrell; and five cats, Sugar, Little Bit, Asbury, Midnight and Pretty Boy. Born on June 23, 1947 in Monroe, Louisiana, Joe graduated from Neville High School in 1965 and Northeast Louisiana University in 1970. After earning his degree in Marketing, Joe began working with State Farm Insurance Company in Monroe, and later transferred to Lake Charles and then to Lafayette. He worked for State Farm in Lafayette until his retirement in 2004, after 35 years with the company. He mentored numerous people and was admired and respected by many in his business. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he formerly served on the Administrative Board. Joe was a lifelong football fan and loved the Neville Tigers and the LSU Tigers until his dying day. He had many friends and loved to go to football games, play golf, travel and spend time with his family and friends. He was a kind and good man who was loved by many and was known near and far for his outdoor cooking skills and his sense of humor. When his children were young, he coached many little league teams and attended countless games, dance recitals and school events. His family is forever grateful for all of the beautiful memories he left behind. Pallbearers will be Danny Domingue, Matt Hill, Shelby White, Bruce Saintsing, Danny Shaw and M.L. Vincent. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
