The Life of Robert Gerard Domingue

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, April, 14, 2008 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA for Robert Gerard Domingue, 85, who died Thursday, April 10, 2008 surrounded by his family at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. He will be laid to rest at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, he lived a life of integrity and generosity with a positive and humorous spirit. Robert’s Christian faith was reflected in his vast involvement with his family, church, friendships and community. He served his country in World War II where he received 2 purple hearts and was involved in the Normandy invasion. He was a long time member of the local VFW. He retired from a 38 year long career with Gulf States Utilities. After his retirement, he spent a lot of his time in Sabinal, TX where he belonged to the Chamber of Commerce. His involvement in this community helped to generate monies through local cook off contests, which he won on several occasions. He was a lifetime member of St. Genevieve Church where he served as an usher. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #3202 in which he achieved 5th Degree Knight and served in local, state and national offices. He played a vital role in the development of Acadian Village and the building of the Chapel. Robert was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America Troop #52 as well as Explorers where he led his troops to 4 National Jamborees and was the proud sponsor of many Eagle Scouts who serve the Lafayette community today. He also served as a City Councilman for his district for a 4 year term during the Bicentennial Celebration of Lafayette. He also served on various charitable organizations throughout the community. He also belonged to the Krewe of Triton where he served as King during the Mardi Gras season of 2000. Robert was dedicated to putting into service his strong Catholic foundation in all aspects of his life. Many lives have been touched by his joi de vie and his willingness to help others. This community is a better place because of his commitment to the improvement of Lafayette. He will be missed immensely by his family, friends and neighbors. It is our hope that his legacy will long be remembered. Survivors include his wife of six years, Bessie “Ginger” Hession; his son, Glenn “Dickie” Domingue and his wife, Diane McInnis of Baton Rouge; his 3 daughters, Susan Domingue and her husband, Jimmie P. Fontenot of Lafayette, Annette Domingue and her husband, Farlyn Bowen of Katy, TX, Laurie Domingue Grayson of Lafayette. His 10 grandchildren; Tanya Fontenot and her husband, Jay Owen of Lafayette, Jammie Fontenot and her husband, Sammie Parbhoo of Jacksonville, FL, Michael Wayne (Nicky) Domingue Jr., Troy Reavis, Bryan Domingue, Darren Reavis and his wife, Laurie Ratliff of Lafayette, Alex Domingue, Devon Charman, Trey Bowen and Cameron Charman. His 4 great grandchildren: Elise’ Fontenot, Isabella Owen, Layla and Noah Parbhoo. His 4 sisters; Theresa Domingue and her husband, Claude Comb, Elaine Domingue and her husband, Raymond Brasseux, Dorthy (Dot) Guidry and Shirley Domingue and her husband, Donald Braquet. Her children: Sister Mary Andrew of Nashville TN, Mathew Hession and his wife, Marcela Gonzales of Lafayette, Michael Hession of Lynchburg VA, Charlene Vivlamore of Spring TX, Pamela Peoples of Lafayette, and Bonnie Hession of Lafayette. Her 5 grandchildren: Michelle Hession, Heather Hession and her husband, James Duplantis, Ashley and Alex vivlamore, Jennifer Johnson. Her 4 great grandchildren: Logan Cormier, Regan, Megan and Conner Cormier. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Thelma Broussard and his son, Michael Wayne Domingue at age 49, his father Adonis Domingue, his mother Aurelia Bernard, his brothers Alphonse and Lester P. Domingue, and his sisters Marilouise Latiolais and Utah Chiasson. Pallbearers will be 8 grandsons. His Honorary Pallbearers will include Renee Prejean, Harry Smith, Horace Trahan, Dale Dupuis, Weston (Tan) Dupuis, P.O. Barras, Patrick Barras, Raymond Brasseux, Donald Braquet, Claude Comb, Jimmie P. Fontenot, Farlyn Bowen, Jay Owens, and Sami Parbhoo. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm with a French rosary at 6:00 pm and an English rosary at 7:00 pm. On Monday April 14, 2008 from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of funeral arrangements.
