The Life of Alex Jerome Hebert

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 16, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Alex Jerome Hebert, 90, who passed away on October 12, 2009 at 8:35 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Pastor Sam Brooks of The Open Door will officiate the funeral services.

He will be laid to rest at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Alex faithfully served his country and fellowman as a Corporal Radioman in the 302nd Airdrome Squadron of the Army Air Force during World War II. In November of 1945 he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to the states he was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked as a switchman. After 34 years of service he retired from the railroad. His most enjoyable times were spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter Gayle H. Dartez, wife of Michael Dartez, and son David L. Hebert, husband of Nanette Hebert, all who reside in Lafayette. His grandchildren include Jody Dartez and wife Carly, Jamie Holderbein and husband Ray, Michael Hebert and wife Heather, Melissa Bourque and husband Carl, and Joshua Hebert. His great grandchildren include: Molly Dartez, Zachary Dartez and Makenzie Holderbein, and step great grandchild, Hunter Bourque.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Gankendorff Hebert, his parents Ovey and Anastazie Hebert, brothers Mayo, Villier, Morris, Wallace, Walter, Saul and sisters Avey, Ella and Amy.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Friday 8:00 am until the time services at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette.

Pallbearers will be Michael Hebert, Joshua Hebert, Kenny Gankendorff, Warren Gankendorff, Jr., Warren Gankendorff, III, and Larry Aillet.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Errol Hebert, Robert Hebert and Carl Bourque.

Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
