The Life of Rita Mae Comeaux

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 27, 2009 at a 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmond Catholic Church for Rita M. Comeaux, age 83, the former Rita Mae Michel, who went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2009 at Courtyard Manor Nursing Home.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Timothy Richard, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Survivors include five sons and one daughter, Ronald John Comeaux, Larry Glenn Comeaux, Terry Lee Comeaux, Benny Ray Comeaux, Jeffrey Lane Comeaux and Corinne Gabriel C. Gregory; one sister, Velma Michel Breaux; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Odel Comeaux; her parents, Dewey Joseph Michel and the former Georgiana Pellerin and two brothers, Lucien Peter Michel and Willie Joseph Michel.Mrs. Comeaux entered into this life on January 10, 1926 in Terrebonne Parish and was a resident of Lafayette since 1947. For many years, she was a parishioner at St. Genevieve Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for sixty one years. She was also a member of Court Alice Boucher #1537, and also served as Regent of Court Alice Boucher, a member of Come, Lord Jesus prayer group, the Rosary and Cenacle prayer group, the Great Devotion to the Rosary and The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Ladies Altar Society and was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. In later years, she sold her house and moved to St. Edmond Catholic Church Parish and was active, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector and was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. In 1964, she entered Carmel and on December 20, 1964, she was clothed with the scapular of Carmel. Her definitive promise was made on April 17, 1966 and she made her vow as a Secular Carmelite on July 16, 1987. Ms. Rita was very active in Carmel until two years ago when she could no longer attend the meetings. She had also volunteered her time and worked at St. Joseph''s Diner. Mrs. Comeaux taught catechism at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church for twenty years. She was employed for many years at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and also worked for Lady of the Oaks Retirement Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Comeaux''s name, may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 1003 South Hugh Wallis Road, Suite F4, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508.A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 6:30 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed Sunday from 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service.Pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons.
