The Life of Walter Thomas Garber

Funeral Services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 11, 2011 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Walter Thomas Garber, 90, who passed away on November 9, 2011 at 1:28 pm at his residence. Reverend Blaine Clement, Pastor of St. Joseph''s Church in Evangeline, LA, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Garber, a resident of Iota, LA, was the son of the late Rodolph Peter Garber and the former Birdie Richardson. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force who served during WWII where he was held as a prisoner of war in Germany. Walter was a member of many civic and military organizations over the years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eula B. Garber of Iota, LA; one daughter Nancy Borel of Ragley, LA; four sons, Wayne Garber and wife Glenda of Iota, LA, Melvin Garber and wife Barbara Bankston of Watkinsville, GA, Earl Garber and wife Janis of Basile, LA, and Dale Garber and wife Jennifer of Crowley, LA; twelve grandchildren, Mark Garber, Matt Garber, Michael Garber, Raegan LeDouaron, Kirk Garber, Ashley LeBlanc, Brandon Garber, Constance Janik, Erin Freeman, Leah Garber, Kylie Garber, and Brittany Williams; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Goldie Rome, and one brother, Frank Garber. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Dustin Garber, two sisters, Eunice May, and Mazie Hebert, and one brother, Harry Garber. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Friday from 8:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be his five children, and his nephews, Jim and Ron Garber. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mr. Garber to Heart of Hospice, 201 West Vermilion Street, Lafayette, LA, 70501. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his current caregivers, Dessie Simar, Carol Ardoin, Susie Dupre, Michelle Nugent, Betty Bealer, Patsy Simar, Missy Sarver, as well as all of his caregivers that have helped care for Mr. Garber during his time of need. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
