The Life of Thelma Bourque Barbier

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Thelma Gary Bourque Barbier, 87, who passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.Reverend Louis Richard, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be granddaughters, Natalie Mhire and Kristine Twardowsky. Lectors will be Amber Bourque and Wanda Bourque. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "J'irai la voir un jour", "Amazing Grace", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "On Eagles' Wings" for the services. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Tabb and her husband Robert of Humble, TX; one son, Ronald Bourque and his wife Wanda of Lafayette; two step sons, Kermit Barbier of Chandler, AZ and Stanley Barbier and his wife Barbara of Lafayette; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Mae Bergeron of New Iberia, Nelwin Vaughn and her husband Allen of Loreauville and Lea Romero of New Iberia; and two brothers, J.D. Gary and his wife Lorena of Lafayette and Wilbert Gary and his wife Melba of New Iberia. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Junius "Nub" Bourque; her second husband, Maurice Barbier; parents, Adam and Edora Comeaux Gary; one sister, Ada Boutte; and one granddaughter, Amy Marie Bourque. A native of New Iberia and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Thelma Barbier was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette and Woodmen of the World. She loved to dance, enjoyed playing bingo and was a wonderful cook. Thelma Barbier will be dearly missed by family, friends and all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Scott Bourque, Trevor Courville, Robert Tabb, Wayne Gary, Duke Word and Colin Word.Honorary Pallbearers will be Chase Tabb, Kermit Barbier and Stanley Barbier.A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service. Martin & Castille-Lafayette, 234-2311
