The Life of Robert Haskell Walker

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette for Robert Haskell Walker, 80, who passed away on September 8, 2009 at 6:10 AM at his residence.

Reverend Jan Holloway, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Walker, a resident of Lafayette, LA, born on September 20, 1928 was the son of the late Robert Cullen Walker of Cass County, Texas and the former Pru Shaddix of Cass County, Texas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He moved to Lafayette in 1957 to start his own business in the electrical wholesale industry, LEW, Inc. He was always active in the community in various organizations. He was a charter member of the City Club of Lafayette, a charter member of Oakbourne Country Club, a member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette and a past President of Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association. He was a member of Brigand de Lafitte and Krewe of Gabrial as well as past king of the Krewe of Troubadours.

An avid hunter he was a Bronze member of Ducks Unlimited for 37 years. He loved dove hunting at his hunting Lodge ''Rancho Acazar'' in Mexico, and also enjoyed fishing in the Gulf of Mexico while entertaining friends and family at his camp at Cypremort Point. A great deal of his leisire time was spent traveling around the United States and Mexico in his motorhome.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettye T. Walker; one daughter, Suzanne Walker Escudier and husband Blake Escudier of Melbourne, Australia; one son, R. Mike Walker, Sr. and wife Anne McDade Walker of Lafayette, LA; two grandchildren, Renee Michelle Walker of Lafayette and Michael Walker, Jr. and his wife Kari Shepherd Walker of Youngsville, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jonnie Faye Hendrix.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of services.

Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Haskell Walker to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Pallbearers will be R. Mike Walker, Sr., Michael Walker, Jr., Blake Escudier, Robert Francez, John Thibodeaux, , and W. Gerald Gaudet. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Al Beacham, Dan McGlasson, Daniel McGlasson, Curtis Rountree, Byron Begnaud, and Dr. Charles Stewart.
