The Life of Elaine Cecile Breaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette for Elaine Cecile Colomb Breaux, 84, who died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Louisiana Extended Care Hospital. Fr. Michael Delcambre, Associate Pastor, St. Pius X Catholic Church will be the celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. The Rite of Committal will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum on Pinhook Road. Mrs. Breaux, a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, was born February 24, 1925, and was the daughter of Louis Henry Colomb and Mary Alma Mouton Colomb of Lafayette. She attended Mt. Carmel, Lafayette High School, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now UL-Lafayette) with a degree in Lower Elementary Education. Elaine was a loving mother and grandmother, as well as a dear friend to many. She was an inspiration to her friends and family. Among her many activities, Elaine served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Lafayette General Hospital for over 25 years, and was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Diner and Meals on Wheels. She was a 22 year cancer survivor. “Potsy”, as she was known by her friends and family, is survived by her four children and their spouses: Michael A. Breaux married to Lisa Mann Breaux; Jeff Breaux, married to Susie Robinson Breaux; Susan Breaux Ducharme married to Thomas “Tommy” Ducharme; and Ann Breaux Thornton married to Charles Hinton Thornton; nine grandchildren: Robert “Robbie” Breaux, Cheryl Breaux Smith and husband Matthew “Matt” Smith; Daniel “Danny” Breaux, Matthew Breaux, Ainsley Breaux and fiancé Nicholas “Nick” King; Nicole Ducharme, Gerard Ducharme, Charles Hinton Anthony Thornton, Mitchell Edgar Thornton, and two great-grandchildren: Aiden Louis Breaux and Andrew John Smith; She is also survived by her siblings: Kenneth Colomb and wife Beverly Cox Colomb; Russell Colomb and wife Beverly Guillot Colomb; Patsy Colomb Robicheaux, Glenn Colomb and wife Judy Begnaud Colomb; Sandra Gerac and husband Louis “Pete” Gerac. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Frank Anthony Breaux, her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ferguson and husband Dr. Joe Rice Ferguson, Jr.; a brother Burl Louis Colomb, and brother-in-law William J. “Hook” Robicheaux. The family is deeply indebted to caregivers Sheila Ardoin and Jessica Courville for their sincere devotion to her, as well as to Dr. Michael Alexander, his fellow physicians and staff along with the Lafayette General Medical Center 4th Floor staff and the 9th Floor Louisiana Extended Care Hospital staff for the care provided to her in her final days. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home beginning at 11:30 a.m. and continuing until the time of services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 107 Global Circle, Lafayette, LA 70503 or to the De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Ave. Lafayette, Louisiana 70501. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
