The Life of Dr. Joseph William McDade

TributeFuneral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Dr. Joseph William McDade, 85, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at his residence. Inurnment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Harold J. Trahan will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Reader will be his granddaughter, Allison McDade Ackal and introduction and petitions by granddaughter, Ashley McDade. Dr. McDade’s other granddaughters, Amy Juneau, Brittany McDade and Renee Walker will be gift bearers. In lieu of pallbearers, his five grandsons, Chris Juneau, Anthony Belina, Brian Juneau, Joey Belina and Michael Walker, will process to the alter with his Urn. Dr. McDade is survived by his beloved wife Marian Montagne McDade; his sister Grace Aline McDade; his four children, Dorothy Juneau and her husband A.J., Lydia Bellina, Mike McDade and his wife Ellen, Anne Walker and her husband Mike. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Chris Juneau and his wife Daphne, Amy Juneau, Brian Juneau and his wife Amanda, Tony Bellina and his wife Lindsey, Joey Bellina, Allison McDade Ackal and her husband Gabe, Ashley McDade, Brittany McDade, Michael Walker and his wife Kari, and Renee Walker; and great grandchild McKenzie Grace Juneau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Hart and James McDade; the mother of his four children, Joy Larose McDade; and one grandchild, Taylor McDade Walker. Joseph William McDade was born in Lafayette, LA on August 7, 1924 to Dorothy Hart McDade and James Franklin McDade. His mother died in 1926 and he was raised by his Aunt and Uncle Edna and Henry Clement.The family moved to Meridian Mississippi, later to Jennings Louisiana and then back to Lafayette. Dr. McDade graduated from Lafayette High School and went to Southwestern Louisiana Institute, SLI, (now University of Louisiana) where he was active in several service organizations including Blue Key and the Navy V-12 program. From SLI, he entered Loyola Dental School and after graduation served in the Navy for two years. He also served our country for many years in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Commander. In 1949 Dr. McDade returned to Lafayette to practice Dentistry. During this time, he organized a small group of dentists, referred to as “The Ministry of Dentistry” and traveled to Creel Mexico to care for the Tarahumara Indians along with the late Father Luis Verplanken. He was instrumental in acquiring the land for Pius X Church and school. He was active in several carnival organizations as well as an avid golfer at Oakbourne Country Club.A Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 18, 2010 in Martin & Castille Funeral Home''s Downtown LocationThe family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.The McDade family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, their doctors and nurses who gave such comfort and care during Dr. McDade’s lengthy illness. A very special thank you to Sylvia Guillory a special friend and caregiverand to Joe.
