The Life of Nora Cage

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm for Nora Margurette Gaudet Cage, 94, who died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at her residence. Rev. Jan Holloway, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate the services assisted by Rev. Floyd Calais. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Cage, a native of Parks, LA, was the daughter of the late Henri Gaudet and the former Mertie Begeaux. She was a graduate of Cecilia High School and received her BA degree in education from SLI (now ULL). She had been a teacher for over 30 years before her retirement from Lafayette Parish School System. She had also taught in St. Mary, St. Martin and Iberia parishes and Port Arthur, TX. The clubs that she belonged to included: The Book and Hobby Club in Jeanerette, Member of Clio Club in Jeanerette; Member of Alpha Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, Past President and Secretary/Treasurer of Federated Women''s Club of Lafayette, Past President of Lafayette Garden club, Past President and Secretary of Lafayette African Violet Club, Member of Louisiana Society for Horticultural Research at ULL Ira Nelson Horticultural Center, Choir Director of McGowen Memorial Methodist Church in Jeanerette, Choir member of First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Past President and teacher of Grace Agate Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, Flower Lady at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette for over 25 years, and Volunteer for Lafayette Senior Center. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Cage Segura Romero; her son, Richard Cage and wife, Merrily; sisters, Beatrice deValcourt Foreman and husband, Barney, Alice Joy Spears Cormier and husband, Leroy; grandchildren, Mark Cage, James Culwell, Kelly Culwell, Kathe Rooney, Courtney Segura Stevens Ransonet, Amy Segura, David Allen Segura, Jr., Rachel Segura; great grandchildren, Richelle Cage, Richard J. Cage, Taylor Cage, Lauren Rooney, Colleen Rooney, Michelle Stevens Bourque, Lauren Stevens, Travis Stevens, Carson Ransonet, Emily Ransonet, Breighton Segura, Bailee Segura, Matthew Green, Hadlea Bourque, Harlee Bourque and great great grandchild, Hayden Chambers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Edward Cage; her brothers and sisters, Oneil Gaudet, Violet Gaudet Trahan, Howard Gaudet, Claude Gaudet, Burkeman Gaudet, Grace Gaudet Hebert, Viola Gaudet Hebert, Phoebe Gaudet Wills, Lloyd Gaudet Barras, Louise Gaudet Pedigo, Joyce Gaudet, Kendall Gaudet and son-in-law, Hervin J. Romero, Sr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of services. Pallbearers will include David Segura, Jr., Mark Cage, David Brame, Rachel Segura, Travis Stevens, and Wayne Willis. Honorary pallbearers will include Barney Foreman, Walter Freeman, Dr. Randy Malloy, Ryan Brame, Kenneth Hebert, George Navarro, and Troy Cormier . Donations may be made in Mrs. Cages'' name to Ira Nelson Horticultural Society at ULL, 2206 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA 70503 or to the charity of one''s choice. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
