The Life of Mansell Oliver Atkins Jr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2006, at 11:00 am, in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mansell O. Atkins, Jr., 82, who passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Larry Langley, Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park. Mr. Atkins, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Mansell Oliver Atkins, Sr. and the former Arbilla Owens both of Ida, Louisiana. Mansell was a dedicated member at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He retired after 45 years of service with Penrod Drilling, Co. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran and served in WWII. He loved to fish and hunt. Survivors include his wife, Oda Lea Atkins of Lafayette; one daughter and her husband, Sharon and Larry Manthei of Winnfield, LA; one son and his wife, James David and Gail Atkins of Oakwood, Texas, eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Dot Rich of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and continue Saturday from 8:30 am until service time. Pallbearers will include Paul Manthei, Michael Manthei, Jimmy Atkins, Steve Long, Blake Daniels, and Ben Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will include Bobby Waller, Herman Anglin, Bobby Rich, Bill Rich, A.C. Louviere, and Jay Wingfield. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mansell O. Atkins, Jr. to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 101 Marie Antoinette, Lafayette, LA 70506.
