The Life of Edward Taulbee III

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at First Baptist Church, Lafayette, Louisiana. Visitation at the church will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Edward Orkney Taulbee III passed away at home after an extended illness. Born in Big Springs, Texas, on September 14, 1928, he spent his early years in many different oil towns. Ed attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he received a degree in Petroleum Engineering. After graduation, he joined Sun Oil Company as a mud engineer. With a break to serve in the army during the Korean Conflict, he remained with this company, in numerous positions, until his retirement in 1987. His years in retirement were spent traveling, enjoying his family, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He prided himself on being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. During his career, he enjoyed the opportunity to attend Harvard University in Boston for a six month Advanced Management Program made up of men in different professions from all over the world. The men of the ’65 AMP class remained in touch and continual friendship with biannual reunions. Ed gave back to his profession and his community. He worked to form and draft the Texas Mineral Code, helped to revise a textbook for Petroleum Engineering at LSU, and served on the Boards of the Engineering Department at LSU, Mid Continent Oil & Gas for Texas and Louisiana, and LAGCOE. He served on numerous community Boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, and two terms on the board of Oakbourne Country Club, including one term as President of the Club. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church and the Daybreak Sunday School class. Survivors include his wife, Jean Cummings Taulbee, and his children and their families; Edward O. Taulbee IV and his wife, Colleen, and their children, Christopher and his wife, Tiffany, and Dawn of Lafayette; Tricia Wittenbraker and her husband, Joel, and their children, Leslie and Luke, of Welch, Minnesota; Beth Mena and her husband, Randy, and their daughter, Katelin, of Bryan-College, Station, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Orkney Taulbee Jr. and Mildred Alfred Taulbee. Honorary pallbearers will be George Cole, Alex Stewart, Dr. Keith Perron, Dr. Jim Cole, Vernon Ventress, George Reynolds, Christopher Taulbee, and Luke Wittenbraker. The family would like to thank all who have been such a support to them through this time with their prayers, visits, cards, etc. The family also extends a special thank-you to the doctors, nurses, and aides who have taken care of Ed and helped them through a very difficult period. The family requests that memorial contributions be made, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503 or the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O.
