The Life of Paul A Emmer

Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 9, 2006 at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Church for Paul A. Emmer, 72, who passed away June 7, 2006 at his residence. Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery in Lafayette. Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley will be celebrant of the mass. Con-celebrant will be Rev. Timothy Richard, pastor, St. Edmond Catholic Church. Musical selections of “On Eagles Wings”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Here I Am Lord”, and “Let There Be Peace” will be provided by Jodi Bollich and Tom Neil. Mr. Emmer, the son of the late Dr. John Wiltz Emmer and the former Hilda Billeaud, was a native of New Iberia and resided in Lafayette. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1951. Mr. Emmer served in the United States Army and was a graduate from the US Army Corp Finance School. Mr. Emmer was a local architect having graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute. He served as secretary, vice-president and president of The American Institute of Architects. He was also licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator. Mr. Emmer was in private practice for over 40 years. Mr. Emmer was very generous in the giving of his professional services to the community. Survivors include his wife, Louella P. Emmer; two daughters, Belinda Russo of Lafayette and Jodie Russo of Lafayette; two brothers, Kenneth Emmer of Lafayette and James Emmer of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Michelle Emmer Kincaid; one sister, Marilyn Emmer; and one brother, John W. Emmer. Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 10:00 am to service time. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. by Deacon Paul Matte at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Emmer, James Emmer, Michael Emmer, Paul Billeaud, Donald Romero and James Paul VanWay, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Manning Francis Billeaud J.P. VanWay, Sr., F.J. Poirier, Jr., Nicholas Kincaid, Artie Boudreaux, III and Michael Winski. Memorial contributions can be made to the Michelle Emmer-Kincaid Scholarship Fund at Landmark College, P.O. Box 820, Putney, Vermont 05346. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
