The Life of Bessie Rose Alston

Funeral Services will be held at a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Holy Cross Church for Bessie Rose Alston, 88, who passed peacefully into eternal rest on February 12, 2010 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Irving, Texas. Bessie was born July 31, 1921 to her parents O’Neal and Lisa Legros in Acadia Parish. She married Hoyt Laverne Alston in 1943 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 9:00 am. Bessie was best known for her love of gardening and baking. Her dedication to her community was shown through her involvement in the Holy Cross Catholic Ladies Altar Sodality and volunteering at St. Joseph’s Diner. Bessie is survived by children, daughter, Patricia Blanchard and husband Leo of Irving, Texas; son, Hoyt Alston and wife Denise of Houston, Texas; and daughter, Carolyn Trahan and husband Paul of Abbeville, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Shea Trahan, Heather Alston Wehking and husband Evan, Ryan Alston and Nathan Alston; one sister, Lucille Legros Bailey of Modesto, California; and two brothers, Lawrence Legros of Morse, Louisiana and James Legros of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday, February 15, 2010 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Monday at 7:00 pm. at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette. Personal condolences may be sent to the Alston family at www.delhommefuneralhome.com.
