The Life of Emily Degeyter

Funeral services will be held at a 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Emily M. Degeyter, 68, who passed away on December 26, 2009 at 2:30 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Casey Dugas. Gift bearers will be Amber Venable, Bianca Degeyter, Heather Degeyter, Chassity Raborn, and Casey Dugas. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Degeyter, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Edmond Menard of Welch, Louisiana and the former Emilie Jaguneaux of Carencro, Louisiana. She was a member of St. Genevieve Church. She enjoyed camping and fishing as well as doing seamstress work. Her hobbies included playing bingo and visiting with friends and family. She loved to garden. She is survived by two daughters, Darlene D. Chiasson and husband Clyde of Rayne, LA, and Lorena D. Venable and husband Stephen of Lafayette, LA; two sons, Lester Degeyter and wife Lonnie of Lafayette, LA, and Darren Degeyter and wife Rebecca of Mire, LA; ten grandchildren, Chassity Rayborn, Casey Dugas, Cody Dugas, Tawaski Chiasson, Jeremy Chiasson, Amber Venable, Kristopher Degeyter, Bianca Degeyter, Brandon Degeyter, and Heather Degeyter; nine great grandchildren; six sisters, Telsie Mcneese, Isore Faul, Edna Brasseaux, Edmonia Goulas, Goldie Hanks, and Audrey Oathoudt; two brothers, Davis Menard, and Leelin " Joe" Menard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Lester" Degeyter, her parents, three sisters, Ida Robinson, Anne Grace Menard, and Leverta Menard, and two brothers, Edward Menard, and Edmond Menard, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm and continue on Tuesday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in Ms. Degeyter''s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503. Pallbearers will be Lester, Darren, Brandon, and Kristopher Degeyter, Cody Dugas, Clyde Chiasson, Leelin Menard, and Davis Menard. Honorary Pallbearer will be Stephen Venable. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Hospice of Acadiana, and Amelia Manor Nursing Home.
