The Life of Joseph Lester Degeyter
Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 29, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Joseph “Lester” Degeyter, 72, who passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his residence.
Reverend Curtis Mallet, Pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Casey Dugas, Brianna Degeyter, Amber Venable, and Heather Degeyter.
Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mr. Degeyter, a native of St. Martin Parish and a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Moise Degeyter and the former Lorina Stoute both of Lafayette.
He is survived by his wife, Emily M. Degeyter; two daughters, Darlene Chiasson and her husband, Clyde of Rayne, and Lorena Venable and her husband, Stephen of Lafayette; two sons, Lester Degeyter and his wife, Lonnie of Lafayette, and Darren Degeyter and his wife, Rebecca of Cameron; ten grandchildren, Chassity Rayborn of Kentucky, Casey Dugas of Lafayette, Cody Dugas of Baton Rouge, Tawaski Chiasson of Mire, Jeremy Chiasson of Church Point, Amber Venable of Lafayette, Kristopher Degeyter of Lafayette, Bianca Degeyter of Lafayette, Brandon Degeyter of Cameron, and Heather Degeyter of Cameron; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Hebert of Lafayette; and four brothers, Louis Degeyter of Scott, John Allen Degeyter of Lafayette, Alton Degeyter of Evangeline, and Delton Degeyter of Jeanerette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Noeda Degeyter, and Beulah Degeyter; and his brothers, Simon Degeyter, Alfred Degeyter, and Noe Degeyter.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Thursday from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm and continue Friday from 8:00 am until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Lester Degeyter, Darren Degeyter, Brandon Degeyter, Kristopher Degeyter, Cody Dugas, and Clyde Chiasson. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Venable, and Robert Robicheaux.
A rosary will be recited Thursday at 5:00 pm in the funeral home.
Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
