The Life of Joyce Marie Monju

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette for Joyce Marie Battistella Monju, 78, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, surrounded by her loving family. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Michael Russo, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Paul A. Monju, Sr.; eight children: Mary Monju, Madeleine Williamson and her husband Douglas, Paul Monju, Jr. and his wife Cheryll, Robert Monju and his wife Glenda, Teresa Syversen and her husband Leif Sr., David Monju and his wife Elizabeth, Michael Monju and his wife Maryhelen and Carmel Monju; twenty-five grandchildren: Jeffrey Guillot, Jessica Tavernit, Jacob Williamson, Christopher Monju, Angelique Meyer, Jarred Monju, Nicolette Moore, Matthew Monju, Gabrielle Monju, Nathaniel Monju, Jeffery LeVerette, Kristen O''Leary, Dagny Syversen, Leif Syversen II, Karmel Garcia, Gunnar Syversen, Mimi Syversen, Nicholas Syversen, Evann Monju, David Monju, Macy Monju, Jeremy Sonnier, Tyler Sonnier, Grant Sonnier and Kelsey Sonnier; and fifteen great grandchildren: Jaylynn Guillot, Bryce Aniksdal, Sven Aniksdal, Ryan Tavernit, Ava Williamson, Ana Williamson, Cole Williamson, Sebastien Meyer, Elias Meyer, Samuel Meyer, Eden Meyer, Hannah Meyer, Aden Moore, Emma Syversen and Conley Sonnier. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Battistella, Sr. and Catherine Greco Battistella; and her seven siblings, Preston Battistella, Walter Battistella Jr., Ethel Battistella Clesie, Catherine Battistella Gruenig, Inez Battistella, Stanley Battistella and Herbert Battistella. Joyce was born in New Orleans, LA on January 6, 1932, the youngest of eight children. She attended St. Joseph Academy and was a graduate of Loyola College of Medical Science in 1952. She married Paul Monju, Sr. on July 19, 1952 and had two children in New Orleans, then moved to Lafayette in 1954 and had six more children. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette for the remainder of her life. Joyce (Ma Ma) was a member of the Come Lord Jesus Group and was a devout Catholic, who loved her religion and was close to God all of her life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who always put family first. We were blessed to have her in our lives and she will be dearly missed. Pallbearers will be Jacob Williamson, Jay Lee Guillot, Christopher Monju, Leif Syversen, Jr., Jeremy Sonnier and David Monju, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jarred Monju, Matthew Monju, Nathaniel Monju, Gunnar Syversen, Nicholas Syversen, Jeffrey LeVerette, Tyler Sonnier and Grant Sonnier. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
