The Life of Judith M. Hilberg

Judith M. (Stettler) Hilberg, 78, of Kutztown, died Thursday, May 17, 2018, in the in-patient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.  She was the loving wife of Clifford H. Hilberg.  They were married August 22, 1959.  Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Elmer W. and Aline M. (Miller) Stettler.  Judy was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church, Kutztown, where she served eight years as a member of church council.  She also taught 5th & 6th grade Sunday School classes for over 20 years. Judy also taught weekday nursery school as a volunteer for several years.  Her service to the church continued as a member of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (WELCA), where she served as vice-president, secretary and president for many, many years. She also served as the East Berks Cluster coordinator, secretary and co-coordinator; served a secretary of the Synodial Women's Organization (SWO) and also served as Treasurer for two terms. Judith was a member of the planning committee for Region 7 events and the triennial conventions.  Judy was serving as secretary of North East Pennsylvania SWO during the time when the organization presented the gift of the Bishop's staff (crosier) at the installation of the presiding Bishop.  She was the lay female delegate to two church wide assemblies, one in Washington, D.C. and one in Florida. Judith was first employed as Secretary to the President of Allen Organ Company, Macungie, for ten years; then for over 28 years as a secretary and member of the clerical staff of Kutztown Borough, focusing on payroll processing and other administrative functions, until her retirement in 2004.

Judy was a graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1957, and a member and served four years as secretary of the Kutztown Women's Club; was a member of Kutztown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary; and was a member of East Penn Chapter, No. 336, Order of the Eastern Star, Kutztown. Judy and Clifford enjoyed visiting the casinos in Atlantic City, and together went on 30 cruises. Judy served her community and congregation in many roles. But, her husband and children will remember her for her selfless unconditional love. She loved Clifford, her children, grandchildren, family and friends with all her heart.  During her battle with cancer, their struggle was her biggest concern.  Dance with the angels, Mom. 

In addition to her husband of 58 years, Clifford, Judith is survived by daughters, Holly A. (Hilberg) wife of James F. Cressman, Kutztown; Heidi A. (Hilberg) wife of Thomas-Jon DaRe, Emmaus; sons, Clifford W., husband of, Tammy L. (Mulutzie) Hilberg, Douglassville; and Tarry A. Hilberg, Eagleville, Montgomery County.  Other survivors include sisters, Constance C. (Stettler), wife of, Leon Lichtenwalner; Loretta F. (Stettler), wife of, Lee Yenser, both of Macungie; brother, Dennis L., husband of, Donna (Arndt) Stettler, Allentown.  There are three grandchildren, Jules A. DaRe, Savannah L. DaRe and Kaitlyn A. Hilberg, along with many nieces and nephews.  Judy was predeceased by a brother Douglas W. Stettler, and infant brother Ronald L. Stettler.

Funeral services to celebrate Judy's life will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., in Saint John's Lutheran Church, 201 East Main Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Mary Ann Hamm, officiating.    Friends may call Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., in the church. Eastern Star Services will be held immediately prior to the religious services. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, will take place on Monday, May 21, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. (please meet at cemetery)

Sympathy

My sympathy to your family. Judy was always very kind to me and always willing to help when called upon. I served on the Learning Team with her and she was a faithful member of the adult Sunday School. I remember her special annotated Bible.
