The Life of Alice R Chmielewski

Alice R. (Skrabak) Chmielewski, of Fleetwood, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017, at the age of 75. She was the loving wife of Stanley M. Chmielewski.

Alice was born in Coaldale, PA and is the daughter of the late Steven T. and Beatrice (Ketcham) Skrabak. Alice was a graduate of Lehighton High School, ‘59. She continued her education at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania where she received a B.S. in Home Economics in 1963.  This is where she met Stan and fell in love. They married as soon as possible, in 1963, and were married 54 years this month. Alice taught home economics starting out at Garden Spot High School in Lancaster County then later at Boyertown High School. When they started having children, her life’s work and love became her husband and five children. Alice enjoyed reading, shopping, dancing, camping, nature, candy, her dogs and cats, and the flowers her doting husband brought her every week. She was a sweet, kind person that loved making special occasions wonderful with the right gifts, sometimes too many gifts!

The last 20 years of Alice’s life were extremely challenging with health issues. She was strong, brave, and she never gave up on life. In spite of her difficulties, she always was happy to see you and she was a great listener. Her pain is gone now and, for that, everyone who knows her is eternally grateful. Alice was loved dearly, and her fighting spirit will be missed forever.

In addition to her husband, Stanley, Alice is survived by her five Children: Tania M. Meese and her husband Patrick, Tara A. Greenawald and her husband Troy, Teri Sue (Susie) Gallo and her husband Joseph, Stanley T. (Teddy) Chmielewski and his wife Alyssa (Marland), and Tiffany A. Humer and her husband Seth. Alice was also blessed with eleven beautiful Grandchildren: Amanda (25), Joshua (23), Zachary (20), Samuel (19) and Sarah (17) Meese, Riley (17) and Emma (15) Greenawald, Julia (16), Joey (14) and Jimmy (11) Gallo and Margaret (1) Chmielewski. Alice also leaves her Brothers, Steven T. Skrabak and his wife Charlotte and Michael T. Skrabak and his wife Judy.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 14833 Kutztown Rd, Kutztown, PA. She will be laid to rest at Berks County Memorial Gardens in Fleetwood. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects Wednesday starting at 11:30 AM at the church.
