The Life of Roy K Rhodes

oy K. Rhodes of Lafayette passed away September 2, 2017 at the age of 93.
Roy was born on February 9, 1924 in New Orleans, LA to Aline Badeaux Rhodes and Roy K. Rhodes, Sr. He served his country honorably during WWII, a pilot in the US Marine Corps and achieving the rank of first lieutenant. After returning from war, he attended and graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly Southwestern Louisiana Institute. Roy married Laura M. Guiterrez and they settled in Lake Charles LA where he worked as General Manager of KAOK radio station. Years later and after the birth of their 3 children, they moved to Lafayette where Roy assisted in the implementation and sign on of KATC TV3. He served there as General Sales Manager until his retirement. After the death of his loving wife, Laura, he married Judith Henderson Rhodes.
Roy loved boats and deep sea fishing until his attention turned to RVs, motor homing and travel. In retirement he also taught himself woodworking and crafted beautiful furniture.
Roy is preceded in death by his spouses, Laura G. Rhodes and Judith H. Rhodes, his oldest son William M. Rhodes, his grandson, Matthew Rhodes and son-in-law, L.A. Sturdivant. He is survived by his children Roy K. “Buddy” Rhodes and wife, Edie of Lafayette and Katherine Rhodes Sturdivant of Macon, GA. His grandchildren Jennifer Luquette and her spouse Brock, Shana Alverson, Kelly Rhodes, Melissa Slappey and her spouse Michael, Emily Thibodaux and her spouse David. Allison Rhodes, Monica Rhodes and Laura Katherine “Katie” Rhodes. And his great grandchildren, Jillian Luquette, Sophie Luquette, Gracie Luquette, Ellie Thibodaux, Luke Thibodaux, Maxwell Reno, Jackson Reno and Nixon Reno.
A Funeral Service for Roy will be held at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
