The Life of Excell Terrell

Lafayette - Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church for Excell Terrell, 88, who died August 2, 2017.

Services will be conducted by Rev. Ricky Carter.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Excell attained his formal education in the public schools in Mississippi, Alcorn A & M College, Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA and ULL of Lafayette, LA.

He served in the U. S. Navy and received an honorable discharge after successfully completing a four-year program.

He taught in the Mississippi public schools for several years. He completed his teaching career in the Louisiana school system, at Paul Breaux High School and Comeaux High School. He retired after 30 years of service.

Excell became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in 1965 and became a life member in 1989.

He became a published author in 2007 with the publication of his book, “A COLLECTION OF POEMS – praising, rejoicing, inspiration, meditations, exaltation and dedication to Christ”.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlene Polk Terrell; daughters, Cassandra and Terry Terrell; adopted sister, Denise Terrell; stepbrother, Alfred McWilliams (Ruby); sisters-in-law, Earless Morris of Jackson, MS and Maggie Green of Clarksdale, MS and a host of “favorite” nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Alonzo Terrell and Grace L. Terrell; brothers, Willie Clyde Terrell and James Terrell and sister, Altha Lou.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart of Hospice, 1100 Bertrand Drive Ste A, Lafayette, LA 70506.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Good Hope Baptist Church from 7:00 a.m. until time of service.
