The Life of Mabel Vercher
Mabel Marie Adams
Vercher passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Pelican Pointe Nursing Home in
Maurice, Louisiana with her family by her side. Mabel was born
October 19, 1926 in Kaplan, Louisiana to Henry and Ava Adams.
Mabel lived for her family, her cigarettes and her beer, although not
necessarily in that order. Shortly before her death she indicated that
“I’ve lived far and I’m tired.”
Predeceasing Mabel were her parents, her husband of 59 years, James O.
“Smokey” Vercher, Sr., her sisters Lillian Farris, Mildred Bertrand, and Mae
Peltier, her brothers Watson Adams and Henry Adams, Jr., and her sons Carson,
Michael and James O. Vercher, Jr. Also predeceasing her was her companion
in the last few years, Mr. Bob Fontenot.
Survivors are her daughters Roxie Comeaux and her husband Brent, Yolanda
Hutchens and her husband Charley, and Jolene Fontenot and her husband William;
also surviving her is her sister Hazel Feverjean and sixteen grandchildren,
thirty-six great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Drew Fontenot, Casey Hutchens, Chris Breaux, Brent
Comeaux, Gage Duhon, and Charley Hutchens.
Services are to be held Monday, August 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation
is from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service at David’s Funeral Home located
at 316 Youngsville Highway, Lafayette, Louisiana, 70508, telephone number:
