The Life of William Westenhoefer

William “Westy” Westenhoefer, 88, of Allentown, died peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2017 in Lehigh Commons, Macungie, surrounded by his loving family, while under the compassionate care of Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. He was the widower of Margaret E. (Wise) Westenhoefer, who died on February 28, 1999, and the companion of Sonia, Alburtis.

Born in Marietta, Lancaster County, William was a son of the late William and Ada G. (Greenawalt) Westenhoefer. He was a member of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Fleetwood (Dryville). Mr. Westenhoefer honorably and faithfully served in the United States Navy as an Apprentice Seaman, during World War II. He attended Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, and received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree from Temple University, Philadelphia. William was employed as an instructor at Lehigh County Career and Technical Institute, Schnecksville, for sixteen years, retiring in 1992. He also was employed in various states as a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration contractor, specializing in the utility, manufacturing, and contracting levels. He was also a licensed Race Track Farrier in five states.

In addition to his companion, Sonia, William is survived by his Children, Barbara Jane (Westenhoefer), wife of James K. Rossnagel, Collegeville, Montgomery County, Marda Ann (Westenhoefer) Smith, Pennsburg, Montgomery County; William Bryan, husband of Judy (Brown) Westenhoefer, New Smithville; and David Russell Westenhoefer, Ocala, Fla.; Daughter-in-law, Diane J. (Krumanocker) Westenhoefer, Kempton, widow of predeceased Son, Mark L. Westenhoefer, who died on November 4, 2013; and a Sister, Ada (Westenhoefer) widow of Leroy Lindemuth, Lancaster. There are also 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate William's life will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 11:00 AM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Cheryl F. Meinschein, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Fleetwood (Dryville). Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home.

The family requests contributions to be made in William's memory to Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, 16 Fleetwood Road, Fleetwood, PA  19522. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
