The Life of Mattie Lee Hudson

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Holy Cross Church for Mattie Lee Hudson, who passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, in her home in Lafayette, LA on Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Father Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will be assisted by Deacon Brent Duplessis of Baton Rouge, LA. Con-Celebrant will be Father Floyd Calais.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born April 6, 1928 in Baton Rouge, LA, Mattie Lee met the love of her life, her husband of 62 years, Jack Hudson, while in college. Together they raised six children. Mattie Lee was a devout Catholic and volunteered at Holy Cross Church. She was a talented seamstress, starting her own business, MLH Professional Draperies, over 30 years ago. She enjoyed gardening, going to the movies and spending time with her family. She was a very loving, caring and giving mother, grandmother and friend to everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed.

Mattie Lee, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Lee Francis Broussard and the former Mattie Cecile Couvillion. She is survived by four daughters, Pam Weaver (Lee), Elaine Richard (Jim), Bridgette Kraus and Suzanne Hebert (Paul); two sons, Johnny E. Hudson, III (Kimberly) and Lee F. Hudson; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Joy Lowe (Joe) and sister-in-law, Lynn Broussard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John (Jack) Hudson, her brother, Bruce Broussard and one grandson, Justin Weaver.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 8:00 am until time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons - Ryan Fox, Chris Hudson, Jimmy Richard, Barret Richard, Jack Hebert and her nephews - Joey Lowe, Shane Lowe, David Lowe and Michael Lowe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana or the Alzheimer’s Association.
