The Life of Dominick J Loiacono

Dominick J. Loiacono, 60, of Whitehall, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2017, in his home.  He was the loving husband of Brenda S. (Rohrbach) Loiacono, whom he married on August 24, 2013.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Santo A. and Mary G. (Nicoletto) Loiacono.  Mr. Loiacono was raised Catholic, but most recently attended Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mertztown.  Dominick was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Old Forge, Lackawanna County, where he was a member of the class of 1974.  Dominick also graduated from Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke, with a degree in Journalism.  Mr. Loiacono was employed as a Sports Writer by Citizen’s Voice, Wilkes-Barre, for over 20 years. Following the Citizen’s Voice buy-out by Scranton Times Tribune, Dominick, worked in sales for TruGreen, Wilkes-Barre and Solid Cactus in mail-order sales, Dallas, Luzerne County.  Dominick’s life revolved around sports.  He wrote about all types of sports in his work, watched high school, college and professional sports, in person and on television. He coached youth sports in his younger years and enjoyed collecting and selling sports memorabilia.

In addition to his Wife of three years, Brenda; Dominick is survived by a Son, Gary D., husband of Barbara A. (Lumbie) Loiacono, West Pittston, Luzerne County; a Sister, Mary Louise (Loiacono), wife of William Thees, Scranton; a Step Granddaughter, Taylor VanScoy; and a Niece, Heidi Thees, Scranton.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 12:30 PM in Saint Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 Grace Street, Old Forge, PA 18518 with Reverend August A. Ricciardi, as celebrant. Relatives and friends may are invited to a visitation on Friday morning from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the church. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that contributions be made in Dominick’s memory to the Dominick J. Loiacono Memorial Fund to benefit youth athletics, c/o Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., P.O. Box 25, Topton, PA 19562-0025. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Topton, PA.

RIP my friend... I participated in many of Dom's online fantasy leagues... I did so because I knew his leagues were always on the up and up....he always told me he would let me know when he came to town...sadly it never came to be...my condolenses to the family...Spike in Vegas
